  1. Brainstorm – The foundation for your online training program. Here are questions to start your creative mojo.
    • What is your goal for the online training program (what does success look like)?
    • Who is your target audience (employees, customers, tech savvy, not so tech savvy)?
    • What format is best for your content (PowerPoint, videos, audio, tests)?
  2. Define – The framework for your online training program. Write a detailed outline of the courses for your online training program. This is basically a script for the course as if you were writing a speech for your boss to present. For each course, consider the following:
    • What is the topic (onboarding new customers)?
    • What are the course objectives (demonstrate understand the company policies)?
    • What type of content is best for each topic (introductory video from president, PowerPoint highlighting key polices, PDF of each policy, scenario-based activity relating to policy, test to determine retention)
  3. Create – The content for your online training program. Expand the script into a storyboard that includes the content for each lesson item. Remember to consider, design (font, size, length, graphics, etc.). Next, upload the content into your learning management system (LMS).
    • Record and edit the introductory video
    • Design the PowerPoint with the key policies
    • Compile the policies to upload into the course resources
  4. Engage – The success of your online training program. Do users view the online training program as an opportunity or chore? Consider gamifying by awarding program certificates, digital badges for specific skills, bonuses or prizes, or other company recognition.
    • Did the users complete the course?
    • Are they interested in more training or referring others?
    • Did the users retain the content..are they able to apply what they learned?
  5. Assess – The data analysis to support your engagement in your online training program. Here are some metrics to consider:
    • What is the completion rate?
    • What was the average score on tests?
    • What was the feedback from users?
    • What do they want to learn next?
    • How can you make it even more engaging next go-round?

Congratulations! Now that you have created a successful online training program, it’s time to LAUNCH. Each time you offer the course you will obtain feedback that will help you improve your online training program. Remember, this helps you stay relevant by adapting to the ever changing learning continum.
