LTI

Wanting something special for your course? A little bit of magic perhaps? Then look for a company that adheres to the LTI (Learning Tool Interoperability) standards. These companies have made their products work with little to no effort inside an LMS. The IMS Global Learning Consortium is responsible for developing and maintaining the standards for Common Cartridge, SCORM and LTI. Edvance360 provides users with the ability to utilize all three.

What is LTI?

“The IMS Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standard prescribes a way to easily and securely connect learning applications and tools with platforms like learning management systems (LMS), portals and learning object repositories on your premise or in the cloud, in a secure and standard manner and without the need for expensive custom programming. Using LTI, if you have an interactive assessment application or virtual chemistry lab, it can be securely connected to your LMS with a few clicks. LTI is comprised of a central core and optional extensions to add optional features and functions. The LTI core establishes a secure connection and confirms the tool’s authenticity while the extensions add features like the exchange of assignment and grade data between an assessment tools and your LMS gradebook (Source).”

Using LTI in Edvance360

Administrators configure LTI settings by navigating to Admin > External LTI Tools > Add New. Once the LTI is configured the instructor can setup the LTI in their course via course settings. Enter required information to configure LTI:

• Tool Name
• URL
• Key
• Secret
• Custom Parameters (optional)

So, if you’re looking for something interactive or “new”, find something LTI compliant and you’ll likely be able to implement it for your courses. You may have to pay the third-party something, but you won’t have to pay Edvance360 to “turn it on” for you. Sounds like magic to us!
